Old Fashioned History The Old Fashioned is said to have been first created at the Pendennis Club, a famous gentlemen’s club in Louisville, Kentucky in 1881 in honour of Colonel James E. Pepper – famed bourbon distiller, who then introduced it to New York high society during his frequent visits to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel bar in New York.
They clearly embraced it, given how the infamous ‘Mad Men’ had such a taste for it 80 years later in the 1960s Manhattan advertising scene. The Old Fashioned has had a makeover or two over its time.
